Claude Max API Credits: The Easy Way to Claim Your $100 or $200 a Month

Claude Max includes $100 or $200 a month in API credits, and Team up to $500. Here's what Anthropic's help page says about claiming them, what they cover and when they expire.

You pay $100 or $200 a month for Claude Max. You may also have $100 or $200 in Claude Max API credits that you never claimed. They don’t show up on their own. You have to link a Claude Console organization once.

Below is only what Anthropic’s help page says. I read the page on October 25, 2026. It was last updated on October 19, 2026 (UTC). Source: Monthly API credits for Max and Team plans.

How much you get

The amount depends on your plan.

PlanMonthly API credit
Max 5x$100
Max 20x$200
Team, Standard seat$20 per seat
Team, Premium seat$100 per seat
Discounted Team (Nonprofit, Scientists)Same per-seat amounts
Free, Pro, EnterpriseNot eligible
Claude Max API credits by plan: Max 5x $100, Max 20x $200, Team $20 or $100 per seat pooled up to $500, Pro not eligible

Team credits go into one pool for the whole team. The pool is capped at $500 a month. The page gives an example. 3 Standard seats and 2 Premium seats give $260 a month. Add one Premium seat and the next cycle gives $360. The pool is worked out from your seats at the time the credits are granted.

Pro doesn’t get these credits. If you’re still choosing a tier, my Claude Pro vs Max comparison covers what else changes.

Who can claim Claude Max API credits

  • Your plan is active and in good standing.
  • You’ve been on Max or Team for at least 7 days.
  • On Max, you are the subscriber.
  • On Team, you are the Primary Owner or an Owner.
  • In the Claude Console organization you link, your role is Owner, Admin or Billing.

You can subscribe on the web, iOS or Android. You still claim on claude.ai in a web browser. You don’t need to add a card on the Claude Platform. No Console organization yet? You can create one during the claim, or at platform.claude.com.

How to claim Claude Max API credits, step by step

  1. On claude.ai, open Settings > Billing (Max). On Team, the Owner or Primary Owner opens Organization settings > Billing.
  2. Find the API credits section and select Link organization.
  3. Pick a Claude Console organization, or create a new one.
  4. Review the Supplemental Credit Terms, then select Link organization.

The credits then show up in that organization’s credit balance.

You can link only one organization. Each organization can get credits from only one plan. You can’t change the link yourself. To change it, you have to contact support.

The page adds two tips. Use the same email in the Console as on claude.ai. If linking gives you an error, try again in a few hours.

What the credits cover

Claude Max API credits work on the Claude Platform with any available Claude model. The page lists these uses:

  • The Claude API, including Messages and Message Batches
  • The Playground in the Claude Console
  • Claude Managed Agents
  • The Claude Agent SDK
  • claude -p or the Agent SDK with an API key from the linked organization

They don’t cover:

  • Claude Code used interactively, in the terminal, IDE, desktop app or web
  • Extra usage in Claude, Claude Code or Cowork
  • Claude on Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI or Microsoft Foundry
What Claude Max API credits cover (Claude API, Console Playground, Managed Agents, Agent SDK) and what they don't (interactive Claude Code, extra usage)

One catch with claude -p. If you’re signed in with your plan, it uses your plan limits, not the credits. Runs from the GitHub Action, the IDE extension or the desktop app count as Claude Code, even with -p.

So your normal Claude Code sessions still run on plan limits. If you’re comparing coding tools, see Claude Code vs Codex.

The page doesn’t list specific models or per-model prices. It only says “any available Claude model”.

When they arrive and when they expire

  • Credits refresh every billing cycle.
  • They arrive shortly after your plan payment.
  • Annual plans get credits every month.
  • Unused credits don’t roll over. They expire at the end of each billing cycle.
  • They’re used before any credits you bought.
  • Everyone in the organization with an API key shares them.
  • They don’t change your plan’s usage limits.

You can see your Claude Max API credits, with the amount and expiry date, at platform.claude.com/settings/billing. The page doesn’t give an exact arrival day. It only says shortly after payment.

What happens when Claude Max API credits run out

If you bought credits or turned on auto-reload, requests keep going on those. If not, API requests stop until the next credits arrive. Nothing gets charged to your Claude plan. Organizations invoiced through sales are billed as usual.

To stop a team from using up the pool early, the page points to workspace spend limits in the Console.

If you change plans

  • Cancel, downgrade or get a refund: new credits stop. What you already have works until it expires.
  • Max 5x to Max 20x: you get prorated credits right away, then $200 each cycle.
  • Max to Team: the Max link ends. The Team owner can claim once Team has been active for 7 days.

What the page doesn’t say

  • Region or country limits. The page doesn’t mention any.
  • Which models are included by name, or what each costs.
  • The exact day credits land each month.

The FAQ answers a few other questions. The rollout takes a few days. These are not the Agent SDK credits from June. On those, the page says: “That credit isn’t available.” You can’t split credits across organizations. Pro doesn’t get them.

Is it worth claiming?

Claiming costs nothing and needs no card. The credits expire every cycle whether you use them or not. If you’ve been on Max or Team for 7 days, it makes sense to link an organization now.

If you’re on Pro, Claude Max API credits aren’t on offer. That’s one more line in the Pro vs Max math. For other plans, my AI subscription comparison and AI subscription quota rules cover the rest.
