The blog uses a small amount of browser storage for language, appearance and privacy choices. It does not currently use advertising or audience-tracking cookies. Optional X content stays unloaded until you request it.
Cookies and browser storage
A cookie is a small value a website saves in your browser and can receive with later requests. Local storage stays in your browser until removed or cleared by the browser; session storage normally lasts for the current tab session. A local-storage preference is not the same as an advertising cookie, but similar privacy rules can apply to both.
What the blog stores
The table covers the blog’s own browser storage. Some entries appear only when you use the corresponding feature.
| Name | Storage / purpose | When / duration |
|---|---|---|
| pll_language | Cookie · remembers the site language. | As pages are browsed or a language is chosen · 1 year. |
| binmage-theme | Local storage · remembers light or dark appearance. | Only after a manual choice · no programmed expiry; removed when system appearance is chosen or site storage is cleared. |
| binmage-consent | Local storage · remembers allow/reject for external media, the notice version, and choice/expiry times; not an advertising identifier. | After saving a privacy choice · 180 days from the latest saved choice. |
| wpEmojiSettingsSupports | Session storage · caches browser emoji-rendering support; not a reader identifier. | When WordPress checks emoji support · current tab session. |
| comment_author_*, comment_author_email_*, comment_author_url_* | Cookies · remember the details entered in a comment form. | Only if comments are open and you select the remember-details option · 1 year. |
| wordpress_test_cookie, wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_*, wp-settings-* | Cookies · WordPress administrator sign-in and settings. | When using sign-in or the dashboard · session/account settings; not required for ordinary article reading. |
External content
X embeds can involve X’s cookies, storage and requests. These are not required to read an article. The load control tells you when a connection to X will be made. You can leave an embed unloaded or open the original source instead. X determines its own cookie names and lifetimes; see X’s cookie information.
Cloudflare may set security or challenge cookies when required to protect the site. These are separate from an advertising preference. Its cookie documentation explains the cookies associated with different Cloudflare features; not every listed feature is enabled here.
Changing your choice
Open Cookie settings from the footer to allow or decline optional external content. Both choices leave the articles readable. You can change your choice later. Your decision applies to this browser; clearing site storage or using a different browser can reset it.
The automatic consent notice is shown to visitors whose connection is identified as coming from an EU country. Other regions do not receive that automatic popup. Country detection is approximate and can be affected by a VPN. Privacy choices remain accessible manually.
The site checks a country code through its own Cloudflare delivery connection to decide whether to show that notice. The consent control uses only that code for the current page and does not save an IP address or country in its preference record. If the country cannot be determined, the automatic notice stays hidden and optional external-media loading stays blocked until you choose to allow it.
The choices currently cover site functions and optional external media, specifically X. There are no active analytics or advertising categories. Allowing external media never loads X automatically. Saving a new choice starts a new 180-day validity period. An expired choice is no longer treated as permission, even if the old local-storage entry has not yet been removed.
Other browser controls
You can delete cookies and local storage in your browser’s site settings. This can reset language, appearance and privacy preferences. A browser may block third-party cookies independently of the blog. Questions about the storage used here can be sent to [email protected].
