Short answer: there is no Claude student discount for Pro or Max. Anthropic’s help center says it doesn’t offer standard discounted pricing for individual plans, and its support team can’t issue one-off discounts or coupons (Claude Help Center: What is the Pro plan). What students can actually do: check whether your university has Claude for Education, stay on the Free plan if you use Claude lightly, pay for Pro yearly ($17 a month, billed $200 up front) if you’re sure you’ll use it all year, or wait for an official promotion. Everything here was checked against Claude’s pricing page and the help center on October 28, 2026.

Is there a Claude student discount?

No. A student pays the same as anyone else: $20 a month, or $200 a year (about $17 a month), before tax. The pricing page has no student tier, and the help center says there are no standing discounts available on request.

Anthropic mentions only two kinds of discount. One is the occasional limited-time promotion, announced on its official social accounts and newsletter. The other is discounted Team and Enterprise pricing for eligible nonprofits, which doesn’t help an individual student.

Claude student discount myths vs facts: no standing student price, support cannot issue coupons, universities can buy Claude for Education

So the usual tips, “email support for a student code” or “sign up with your .edu address and get Pro,” don’t match what Anthropic says.

4 ways to pay less as a student

Claude student discount options compared: university Claude for Education, the Free plan, Pro annual billing and limited-time promotions

1. Your university’s Claude for Education

This is the closest thing to a Claude student discount. Anthropic sells an education plan to institutions, and the school gives accounts to its students, faculty and staff. The pricing page describes it as access for all university members at discounted rates (Claude Education plan).

If your school has signed up, you sign in at claude.ai with your university email. According to the help center, university accounts get higher usage limits than individual plans, and your school may have changed some features, so ask your IT department about local rules. One catch: if you already made a personal account with your university email, you’ll be able to pick either account at login, but you can’t move chats between them.

If your school hasn’t signed up, you can’t join on your own. The only student links on the education page are applications for the Claude Campus Ambassador program and the Student Builder program. Neither is a discount.

2. The Free plan

Free costs nothing and covers chat, web search, creating files and running code. For outlining essays or checking a concept, you may never need Pro’s extra usage. Try Free for a week or two and upgrade only if you keep hitting the limit.

3. Pro, billed yearly

$200 a year instead of $240 if you paid monthly, so you save $40. Only do it if you’re sure you’ll use it all year. Claude subscriptions are mostly non-refundable: users in the EEA and UK can get a prorated refund within 14 days, but elsewhere refunds are generally not possible (Anthropic refund policy). If you only need it during the semester, monthly is safer.

4. Wait for an official promotion

Anthropic says it runs limited-time promotions now and then and announces them through official channels. Follow its official accounts or newsletter. Don’t buy codes from resellers.

Which Claude plan fits a student budget

Claude student discount check: Free $0, Pro $20 a month or $17 a month billed annually ($200), Max from $100 a month
PlanMonthlyYearlyGood for
Free$0—Occasional use
Pro$20$200 ($17/mo)Daily use, Claude Code
Maxfrom $100—All-day use

Even without a Claude student discount, Pro is decent value for coders: it includes Claude Code, so computer science students get the coding tool on the $20 plan. Pro usage resets every five hours; Anthropic doesn’t publish a message count, because it depends on message length, attachments and the model. Pro is also only sold in supported regions, so check your country before paying.
