Google AI Pro Student Offer 2026: Who Gets a Free Year, and Who Only Gets Plus

The free Google AI Pro student year is US-only. Students in 140+ other markets get Google AI Plus for 12 months instead. Who qualifies, how SheerID verification works, and how to avoid the charge in month 13.

The free Google AI Pro student offer is only for college students in the US. If you are 18 or older and enrolled at a US college, you get 12 months of Google AI Pro at no cost, as long as you redeem it by December 31, 2026 (Gemini for students). Students in more than 140 other markets get 12 months of Google AI Plus instead, which is the cheaper tier. In Hong Kong, Macau, Canada, Bolivia, Albania and Tunisia there is no free year at all (Google blog).

Both offers turn into a paid plan after 12 months unless you cancel: $19.99 a month for Pro, $4.99 a month or the local equivalent for Plus. I checked every rule below on October 27, 2026 against Google’s offer terms, the Google One student help page and the SheerID student FAQ.

Google AI Pro student offer: who gets what

There are really three student deals, and which one you can claim depends on the country of your university, not your passport:

Google AI Pro student offers compared: US students get AI Pro free for 12 months, students in 140+ other markets get AI Plus free for 12 months, and a Pro plus YouTube Premium bundle is up to 70% off
  • US students: Google AI Pro free for 12 months, valued at $19.99 a month. That means 4x the Free plan’s usage limits in Gemini, Gemini Spark, Gemini Omni, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, and 5 TB of storage (source).
  • Students in other markets: Google AI Plus free for 12 months. Plus has 2x the Free usage limits, Gemini Omni and 400 GB of storage (source).
  • Pro + YouTube Premium Student bundle: Google AI Pro together with YouTube Premium for students at up to 70% off, for up to 4 years while you stay a student (source). Google doesn’t list one global price for it, so check the price shown in your country before you sign up.

US students whose 2025 Pro trial already expired can qualify again, and the offer has to be re-verified every year (source).

Which countries get the Google AI Pro student plan

Google AI Pro student offer by country: United States gets Pro, UK, India, Japan, Spain and Mexico get Plus, Canada and Bolivia only the bundle, Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China get nothing

The terms exclude Bolivia, Albania, Canada, Hong Kong, Macau and Tunisia from the free year (offer terms). Your school also has to be somewhere Google AI Plus is sold. Google keeps that list on its Google AI Plus availability page, and mainland China isn’t on it.

The bundle has its own list, on the student help page. It includes Canada and Bolivia, so students there can still get a discounted Pro plan. Argentina has the free Plus year but isn’t on the bundle list. Hong Kong, Macau and Tunisia are excluded from both.

Requirements for the Google AI Pro student year

From the terms and the help page, you need all of these:

  • You are 18 or older, and your age is verified on your Google Account. The birthday you type into SheerID has to match the one on your Google Account.
  • You are enrolled now at a higher-education institution. An acceptance letter doesn’t count, because SheerID checks current enrollment and future terms are not eligible.
  • You sign in with a personal @gmail.com account. School-issued Workspace for Education accounts are not eligible.
  • Your Google Play country (Android or web) or Google Payments profile (iPhone) matches the country where you live and study.
  • You add a payment method at sign-up, even though the first 12 months cost nothing.
  • You are not a member of someone else’s family group, and your account isn’t supervised through Family Link.
  • You don’t pay for Google One through Apple, Google Fi, Pixel Pass or a mobile carrier. Cancel that plan first. If you pay through Google Play, you can switch straight to the student plan.

How to verify and claim it

  • Open one.google.com/ai-student while signed in to the account you want to use.
  • Pick the student offer shown for your country.
  • Fill in the SheerID form. Type your name exactly as it appears on your school document.
  • If SheerID asks for proof, upload a document that shows your full name, your school’s name or logo, and a date showing current enrollment.
  • Finish the sign-up and add the payment method.

Google says document review usually takes a few minutes but can take a few days at the start of term (source). Don’t submit the form over and over, because you only get a limited number of attempts. Then claim the offer with the same Google Account you used when you started; the verification can’t be moved to another account.

Common SheerID errors and fixes

  • The name doesn’t match: if your ID card shows only initials, type your name exactly as printed, or upload an enrollment letter or fee statement with your full name.
  • Doesn’t meet the date requirements: many student cards have no date. Add a tuition receipt, class schedule or student-portal screenshot from the current academic year. You can upload more than one document.
  • Maximum verification attempts reached: after 3 failed attempts, retrying on the same account won’t work. Email [email protected] (source).
  • Verification limit exceeded: your student details were already used on another Google Account. Each student can redeem once, so sign in with the account you used first.

What the free year is worth, and the charge in month 13

What the free Google AI Pro student year is worth: $239.88 for Pro at $19.99 a month, $59.88 for Plus at $4.99 a month

At list price, 12 months of Pro is 12 x $19.99 = $239.88, and 12 months of Plus is 12 x $4.99 = $59.88 (Google AI plans). When the year ends, the card on file is charged the standard monthly price for your country until you cancel. To avoid that, cancel before the offer period ends. If you cancel early, your plan may stay active until the end of the 12 months (offer terms).

A few smaller rules are easy to miss:

  • Upgrading from the US 12-month trial to a paid plan makes you ineligible for the trial again.
  • The trial doesn’t include YouTube Premium Lite.
  • Add-ons such as upgraded storage (2 TB for Plus, 10 TB for Pro) are not available while you’re on a student offer.
  • Student usage limits may differ from paid members, and Google says they can change without notice.
  • If you go over your storage limit and then cancel, you can’t save anything new until you delete files or pay for storage.

If you already pay for Pro, switching to the student offer applies right away with a prorated refund. Ultra members stay on Ultra until the end of their billing cycle (source). To see what Pro gives you over Ultra, read Google AI Pro vs Ultra. How the 5-hour and weekly limits work is covered in AI subscription quota rules.

Which Google AI Pro student deal should you take?

Which Google AI Pro student deal you can get: US school gives Pro free, an eligible Plus market gives Plus free, a bundle country gives Pro plus YouTube Premium at up to 70% off

If you study in the US, take the free Pro year and set a calendar reminder for month 11. If you study elsewhere, the free Plus year costs nothing, so take it first. Move to the Pro + YouTube bundle only if you actually use YouTube Premium and need Pro’s higher limits. If your country has no student offer, no trick on this page will change that. Google checks the school, the payment country and the documents.

FAQ

Is the Google AI Pro student offer really free?

Yes, for 12 months, but you need a payment method, and it renews at $19.99 a month unless you cancel (source).

Can students outside the US get Google AI Pro free?

No. Outside the US the free year is Google AI Plus. The closest way to get Pro is the Pro + YouTube Premium Student bundle, where it’s sold (source).

Can I use my school email?

No. You need a personal @gmail.com account. Workspace for Education accounts are not eligible (source).

Do I have to verify again?

Yes. The Pro student offer and the bundle usually ask you to re-verify with SheerID every 12 months. If you don’t, you lose the offer and may be charged the regular price (source).
