Claude App Store Price vs Web: You Pay Up to 25% More on iPhone
Claude App Store price vs claude.com: Max is 25% more on iPhone in the US. Official prices for Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini, plus how to move to web billing without paying twice.

Here’s the Claude App Store price problem in one line: in the US App Store, Claude Max 5x costs $124.99 a month. On claude.com it’s $100. Same plan, same account, same limits on Anthropic’s side. You just paid $24.99 extra for tapping a button inside the iPhone app. I checked Apple’s own App Store listing and Anthropic’s pricing page on October 21, 2026, and the gap is real for Max and for the annual Pro plan.
The good news is that the fix is boring. Subscribe on the web. The less good news: if you’re already billed by Apple, there’s an order to doing it, or you’ll pay twice.
The short answer
- Claude Pro monthly: $20 in the app, $20 on the web. No difference.
- Claude Pro annual: $214.99 in the app, $200 on the web. About 7.5% more.
- Claude Max 5x and 20x: $124.99 and $249.99 in the app, $100 and $200 on the web. That’s 25% more.
- ChatGPT and Google AI on iPhone: basically the same as their websites. This is mostly a Claude thing.
Claude App Store price vs website, plan by plan
The App Store numbers come straight from the “In-App Purchases” list on Claude’s US App Store page. The website numbers are from claude.com/pricing. Both are before tax.

| Plan | Website (US) | iPhone App Store (US) | Extra you pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pro, monthly | $20 | $20.00 | $0 |
| Pro, annual | $200 per year | $214.99 | $14.99 a year |
| Max 5x, monthly | $100 | $124.99 | $24.99 a month |
| Max 20x, monthly | $200 | $249.99 | $49.99 a month |
Over a year on Max 20x, that’s almost $600 for nothing. Over a year on Max 5x it’s about $300. I’d rather spend that on, well, anything.
The app also sells usage credits ($20, $45 and $200 packs). On the web, usage credits work differently (you turn them on and pay at standard API rates), so I’m not putting the two side by side. They’re not the same product shape.
Why is the Claude App Store price higher?
Anthropic doesn’t explain it anywhere I could find. My guess is the cut Apple takes on in-app purchases, but that’s my guess, not something Anthropic says. What Anthropic does say is that the Pro price is “$20 per month (US)” and that you should check “claude.ai/upgrade or your mobile app store for current pricing in your region”, which is a polite way of admitting the two can differ.
What about ChatGPT and Gemini on iPhone?
I checked the same Apple listings for ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Here the App Store and the websites line up.

ChatGPT Plus is $19.99 in the app versus $20 on the pricing page. Go, Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 match to the dollar. Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra (the 30 TB one at $199.99) match Google One’s prices too.
Two oddities. Apple’s ChatGPT list has a second item also called “ChatGPT Plus” at $200.00, with no billing period shown. Don’t read that as an annual Plus plan; OpenAI says Plus is billed monthly, and I’m not going to guess what that line is. And per OpenAI’s iOS help, going from Free straight to Pro has to be done on the web anyway.
How to subscribe to Claude on the web (the normal way)
The way around the Claude App Store price isn’t clever at all. Open claude.ai in a browser, sign in with the account you already use, click your initials, and upgrade from there (or go to claude.ai/upgrade). On the web, Anthropic only takes credit or debit cards, according to its billing FAQ. No PayPal.
After that, everything lives in Settings → Billing: invoices, the card on file, switching between Pro and Max. Upgrades apply right away with unused time credited; downgrades kick in at the end of the billing period. Your chats come with you whichever plan you’re on.
One more thing. Claude’s paid plans are only offered in supported locations, and the help center says so. If you’re not in one, the answer isn’t a workaround, it’s a different tool.
Already paying through Apple? Move to web billing in this order
This is where people get double-charged. Apple bills you, not Anthropic, so Anthropic can’t just “move” your subscription.

For Claude, Anthropic’s cancellation article says: in the iOS app, tap your initials, then Billing, then Manage subscription (or cancel straight from your Apple subscriptions). Do it at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You keep the plan until the period ends. Then subscribe on claude.ai with the same account. Anthropic doesn’t publish a single “migrate from Apple” guide, so this is me putting its cancel and billing docs together, but the logic is simple and canceling doesn’t delete your chats, projects or files.
For ChatGPT, OpenAI spells it out in a dedicated article: cancel the Apple subscription first, confirm it won’t renew, and only then subscribe on chatgpt.com. It even warns that if an Apple renewal failed and you later fix your Apple card, Apple can quietly revive the old subscription. Lovely.
Refunds and receipts when Apple is the one billing you
If you bought through the App Store, Apple handles refunds. Anthropic’s pricing FAQ says so, and so does OpenAI. Receipts are in your Apple account, not in claude.ai. On the web, invoices sit in Settings → Billing and get emailed with the subject “Your receipt from Anthropic”. For the full cancel-and-refund picture across Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini, see my cancel or downgrade guide.
Claude App Store price in Spain and Mexico
The Claude App Store price outside the US is listed too. Apple’s Spanish and Mexican storefronts show local prices, so here they are, from apps.apple.com/es and apps.apple.com/mx:
| Plan (App Store) | Spain | Mexico |
|---|---|---|
| Pro, monthly | 22,00 € | MX$399.00 |
| Pro, annual | 249,99 € | MX$4,999.00 |
| Max 5x, monthly | 149,99 € | MX$2,499.00 |
| Max 20x, monthly | 299,99 € | MX$4,999.00 |
What I can’t give you is the matching web price in euros or pesos. Anthropic says it charges “in your local currency where supported” and points you to claude.ai/upgrade, but it doesn’t publish a local price list. So I’m not computing a percentage for Spain or Mexico. Open claude.ai/upgrade from there and compare yourself.
When paying in the app is still fine
Claude Pro monthly costs the same either way, so if that’s your plan and you like managing everything in Apple settings, there’s no penalty. Same for ChatGPT and Google AI. The trap is specifically Claude Max and Claude Pro annual. If you’re picking a Claude plan in the first place, my Claude Pro vs Max notes are a better starting point than the app’s paywall screen.
My take
Buy Claude on the web. Especially Max. The Claude App Store price is 25% higher for Max in the US, and nothing in Anthropic’s docs suggests you get anything extra for it. If you’re already on Apple billing, cancel there, let it run out, and resubscribe on claude.ai with the same login. Ten minutes, maybe $300 to $600 a year back.
Checked October 21, 2026, Beijing time. App Store prices change without fanfare, so look at the listing yourself before deciding.
Claude App Store price: FAQ
Why is Claude more expensive on iPhone?
In the US App Store, Max 5x is $124.99 and Max 20x is $249.99, versus $100 and $200 on the website. Anthropic doesn’t publish a reason. Pro monthly is $20 in both places.
Is ChatGPT cheaper on the website than on iPhone?
Not really. On the US App Store, Plus is $19.99 and Go and all three Pro tiers match chatgpt.com exactly. The website is still easier to manage across devices, which OpenAI itself recommends.
Can I switch from App Store billing to the web without losing my chats?
Yes, as long as you keep the same account. Cancel in Apple, wait until the period ends, then subscribe on claude.ai. Anthropic says canceling doesn’t delete your chats, projects or files.
How do I cancel Claude on iPhone?
In the Claude app: your initials, then Billing, then Manage subscription. Or iPhone Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Do it at least 24 hours before renewal. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel anything.
What’s the Claude Max price on the App Store?
US: $124.99 a month for Max 5x and $249.99 for Max 20x. Spain: 149,99 € and 299,99 €. Mexico: MX$2,499 and MX$4,999.
Is the Claude Pro annual plan cheaper in the app?
No. It’s $214.99 in the US App Store and $200 on the web.
